It’s Thomas writing today…I wonder do you guys actually looking forward to my post eh? While my the other half set her journey to Malacca I too have a enjoyable time with Astro except some unexpected moment…Read on and you will know why or if you follow Cindy’s FB some of you might have know already?
After a long week, it’s the weekend again and nothing like a good ol’ cuppa of coffee to start the day while checking through some newsfeed of Facebook (Most people does it, no?). Whilst busy indulging in the moment, time passed rather quickly than anticipated as I had to rush slightly due to being immersed into the TV show on Astro which coincidently will be heading to the Astro event that will be held in conjunction with Malaysia’s 56th Independence Day later in the day. So had gotten ready and head out for some weekend action in Mid Valley.
I was initially taken aback by the traffic which on regular schedule on Saturday is slightly congested as heading to the Mid Valley direction but find it smooth flowing and there were plenty of parking space around. Well thought maybe this might be a great day and continued to make way to the event. Arrived at the place and was greeted by some interesting shirt word designs imprinted on it. At there we learned that Astro will be celebrating the best of Malaysia through a variety of activities on air, online and on ground to spread positivity, harmony and happiness. Astro also celebrates the best of 1Malaysia and our Malaysianess by recognising our unique lingo such as Syok!, Gostan, Brudder, Fuyoh, Macha, understood only by fellow Malaysians which can be instantaneous seen at the booth and banners.
The crowd turned out, was just amazing in numbers which later lead to some unforeseen and untoward incident that would be left scarred until a glimmer of hope, sparks the positive flow of energy.
The Storm Before the Calm
Prior awaiting the guest for the day to officiate the event, I was struck with calamity as the camera held by the hands, had suddenly lost grip due to some unknown reasons which still trying to piece it together on that day. It was devastating blow to self-esteem and mood changer. First few thoughts were why it had to happen right before the main event and why is the darn lens so fragile.
The Opening Speech!!!
While onlookers witness the whole episode, I was speechless and dumbfounded. With no other alternative and choices left besides the trusty phone camera, I had to swallow that dry, big brick of reality with consequence pills which is definitely beyond the realm of taste though as depressing as it gets, the show must go on. The emcee had went on stage, Ezra (Mix FM) and Arnold (Hitz.FM) got the people altogether as the program was about to commence.
The emcee announces Astro’s Chief Operating Officer, Henry Tan on stage. Sporting with a “Rilek-lah Bro!” and a big smile on his face, he said
“This year, our Merdeka Campaign would revolve around celebrating our uniqueness as whole and being Malaysians whilst encouraging everyone to do something positive to put a smile on the faces of others. Hence Astro would be running #gobeyond and #UrMalaysianIsShowing campaigns which similarly will feature the launch of a new music video, entitled “Excuse me Sir, your Malaysian is showing”. The music video incorporates the unity and racial harmony within Malaysia. We invite everyone to participate in our #gobeyond campaign and tell us about it on social media with the #gobeyond hashtag. Your positive action can be helping someone in need or even writing an inspiring message, which will trigger the Positive Engine. Every positive act will be tabulated. To date, we have received over 140,000 positive contributions and we are aiming to exceed the million mark."
Subsequently celebrities had come on stage to unveil the Positive Engine which is said to be the first of its kind that features Malaysian landmarks and is housed in the 3rd floor in Mid Valley Megamall for all to see. The crowd is anxious to see what’s behind the black drape.
Later we were in treat with the live performance of the “ Excuse me Sir, your Malaysian is showing ” by the celebrity performers which is set to rock the atmosphere.
The uniqueness of the music is how it depicts the colourful language of racial harmony.
After the performance, everyone was invited to view the Positive Engine which is a sight to behold that incorporates iconic landmarks in Malaysia.
Let’s the Game Begin!!!!!!
Following there is the event for bloggers to participate under Nuffnang which pushes the internet main stream media over the connectivity limit. Everyone gather along to be briefed and what to expect in the coming hours. Well we were in for a surprise or so to speak.
Essentially we are divided in groups of 16 with 4 man team. The team segregation is done via the number received upon registration earlier at the booth counter. Then we are tasked with 27 different type of task which would heavily involve tweeting and instagramming with lots of hash tag of #GoBeyond #UrMalaysianIsShowing @Nuffnangmy. Each team is then charged with a Marshall that would view the completed task and strike it off. As evident as the number which is 3, I was short with one team member and would have to make the best of it. After receiving the survival kit, we had immediately sprung into action by segregating task to minimize time wastage and being short of one person.
(Would like thank this lovely lady whom had allowed us to snap the picture)
A fellow blogger who sports the similar themed attire.
(Thank you once again)
Apparently the data connection in that area was pretty bad that uploads wasn’t getting uploaded. My team member was drained including me though our spirits remained to go for another try to complete few more tasks before the timer ends. Unfortunately it had ended a couple of minutes ago. Well I just have to say kudos to my team despite being short by one, we had manage to complete a handful task and the laughter surrounding, had definitely uplifted the dark gloomy cloud that surrounded me earlier.
Later we head over to Blu-Med for some refreshment and the prize giving to the team that had managed to complete the most tasks.
Guess everyone is pretty famished from the earlier activity and smell brewing from the food spread on the side. Celebrity, Lisa Suryani was present to award the prize to the winning team.
Well with the prize giving officially ended, it’s time to digging into the food and yes, the spread is everything the smell that the nose can pick up. Check out the what I got hauled from there.
It was a definitely a great event which I firmly believe would help cultivate the positivity in individual that comes collectively which would further inspire others to follow suit and help spread the positivity. Whether it’s at home or at work, everyone can be a part of this and also own their favourite lingo on a T-shirt as seen at the event via the #UrMalaysianIsShowing Facebook app.
The proceeds from the sale will contribute towards a charitable cause.
