“Lesson One, Nothing is what it seems..”
In the highly anticipated sequel of the Iron Man series and the numbers of trailer release with some stunning promo pictures would keep the moviegoers imagination run wild for the movie, it promises to be more action packed towards the path of self-discovery.
Following from the story arc, Extremis which plays the vital key element in the movie overall theme, the producer had revised on the story arc with a twist that makes the plot development much more interesting.
Back to reprise his role as billionaire aka Iron Man, Tony Stark is Robert Downey Jr which gave the character the persona that is unique like non other, and also the lovely Gwyneth Paltrow which reprise her role as Tony Stark’s long time associate cum girlfriend, Pepper Potts whom was elected as the Stark Industries CEO. Don Cheadle is back to reprise the role as Lt. Col James Rhodes whose the long time buddy of Tony Stark and had confiscated a suit from the prior movie that is weaponized to be, War Machine (Which is renamed to Iron Patriot in lieu of the sensitivity of the name due to aftermath during New York).
[SPOILERS!!] Set in aftermath of post event during the Avengers in New York, everything has change as narrated by Tony whom reminiscence on what was the inception of the chain of sequence that happen fast forward to the present. Still in his high ego and partying days, Tony with a beautiful scientist paramour, Maya Hansen whom crudely avoided a crippled but a brilliant scientist named Aldrich Killian who wanted the support by Stark for his endeavor, Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM) that eventually comes back to haunt Tony later in the future. During which Yinsen made introduction to Tony but was brushed away whom unknowingly that eventually he would be Tony’s saviour and a catalyst to change his ways.
Fast forward to present, Tony is experimenting a prototype suit dubbed as Mark 42 (Great, now we know how many are there in total.) which is capable to equip onto the user with just a whim of thought though some calibration is required to make the suit fully functional. During which we learn that Tony wasn’t the same after the events in New York as he suffers from sleep deprivation and anxiety attacks. Slowly he is losing grip of his senses and pulled in all efforts to build more suits to combat the impending threat.
Pepper is shown to be charged on overseeing Stark Industries while Happy is charged to be Head of Security. Soon the chain of events begins to unravel as the ghost from the past, Aldrich Killian made his appearance that apparently had discard the disability and remarkable makeover. He had presented Pepper a project idea from his think tank, AIM with the project named Extremis (Now this is where it gets connected from the initial). As immediate, it was turned down due to its able to be reengineering into weapons which Stark Industries is diverting from. With the impending danger looms, Happy got injured from an explosion and the terrorist menace, “The Mandarin” had claimed responsibility on the explosion which in turn caused Tony vowed to take down “The Mandarin” and telling on air where he lives (He’s gone nuts by the fact of Happy got hurt or so we think.).
Soon Tony will faced the greatest challenge as “The Mandarin”, an enemy whose reach knows no bounds whom destroys his personal world and the collection of armour in the hall of suits, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This time the journey he is on which at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Tony is left to survive with whatever left and would have to rely on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he makes his way back of rebuilding and retribution, Tony discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
While the hype generated is intense and anticipation runs high, both the producer and director ought to strengthen the story plot though they did well by reimagined the story arc into the movie and breath in new ideas, such as the suit reequip independently which shown in the comics but without the Extremis virus assistance.
However they could reduce the loop holes that are shown in the movie as some of the parts is flawed and contradicts from the prior. The plot twist really got viewers stunned. Perhaps this could be due to the new director, Shane Black instead of the Jon Farveau whom reprises his role as Happy Hogan. The special effects and graphic rendering is absolutely stunning and marvellous. Much effort is seen done into the detailing on each of the suit.
[SPOILER!] It is absolutely mindblowing to see all the suit comes to the rescue which could be said as the epic scene while Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) instructed Jarvis (Voiced by Paul Bettany) to launch an all-out assault. It’s like an orchestra of battles but separated by designs and unified by one voice. Though with some minor setbacks, it is definitely a sought after, must watch movie for all fans and movie goers as I’m planning to grab a second screening if available. So wait no longer and catch the movie in the cinema near you today.
Till the next review.
