Hoe Chai Portuguese Grill Fish

I’m back from my long week holiday in Bali and I can’t wait to share with you on my Bali trip. But first, I really want to recommend this delicious grill fish to you all.

Nowadays I find it hard to get a good grill fish stall around Klang Valley.. Either the fish is too dry or not fresh.

Last month when we head to our usual curry pan mee for dinner it was closed and we stumbled across this particular stall that grilled fish “Portuguese Style” , Hoe Chai Portuguese Grill fish.

There is also Bah Kut Teh stall just beside.

That day was rainy so we think Bah Kut Teh is a good choice. But we were wrong. Highly priced, RM 21.00 for a small claypot of diluted Bah Kut Teh broth.

We tried two different flavors of the grilled fish. I was surprise even the fish were grilled but the flesh texture is similar to the steam flesh texture.. Subtle and juicy.

Before i go into each flavor, what makes this grill fish special is that the fish texture remain as white, as soft and as flaky as it is steamed but yet it comes with a hint of the smoky aroma.

Grain Salt Grill (Yim Siew) was the simplest and it retain the sweetness in the fish.

When turn to the other side, the slightly burnt skin gives a hint of bitter sweet.

Next is the Must Try Signature Sauce Grill contains lots of minced fresh lemon grass and ginger. The whole paste taste so fresh as it is just blended few minutes ago.

Whole fish smells so good and the mix flavors of lemon grass, chilly padi and ginger is amazing. The richness of the paste keeps me going on and on. Remember to tell uncle to put more 4-angle bean and lady finger for extra tanginess.

Due to the paste the skin burnt more and skin become more crispy.

Grill fish prices range from RM 20.00- RM23.00 depends on its size. They only used fresh Red Tilapia Fish from Spring water “Shan Sui Fei Zou Yu”.

We also order the Braised Pork with Yam, RM 12.00. Too dry and salty for my liking but good if eat with the white rice.

Also tried Braised tofu, RM 10.00, but it was lacking in flavor.

So the main point here is to eat the grill fish.  For member of 4 i suggest order 2 grilled fish  and boiled vegetables or Braised Pork with Yam for some varieties..
