Kota Kinabalu Day 1: Kota Kinabalu Town

Thursday, May 17, 2012

I never fancy the idea of visiting in my own country because I live in Malaysia every single day and have already bored over the weather, people or culture….Indeed I am just not that loyal or I easily get bored at things around me. So you might wonder why I choose Sabah? Why not Sarawak? The key here is AirAsia is having promotion for flight to Kota Kinabalu and mum have a numbers of friends in KK.

The whole trip was solely plan by me and mum’s friend Gecky which eventually become another close travel buddy of mine!

Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton, is the city capital of Sabah. You can find places with bright sky along the sandy beaches, virgin coral reefs, tropical rain forest and sky high Mount Kinabalu across the green fields of grass. Kota Kinabalu offer a wide variety of food from over 30 different ethnic and an array of seafood for you to choose from.

As usual, I always reach the place a night before so that I can spend whole day the net morning with full energy. Gecky was so kind to have pick us up at the airport and bring us to the famous pork meat and pork ball (Sang Nyuk Mee) noodle shop at Kedai Kopi Jia Siang near Kota Kinabalu downtown.

The Dark Soya Sauce Noodle with pork meat and pork ball (Kon Lou Sang Nyuk Mee) is real good, the aroma of the dark soy sauce coating the yellow noodle simply delicious. It is very different from the yellow noodle I used to have in KL. I’d say it’s a tangier and chewier version. The main ingredient, the Sang Nyuk or pork slice has so much pork flavor and the texture is so good to chew with, I kept chewing more and more. The pork ball is equally good.

Another not to miss dish here is fried dumplings. Crunchy and again the pork texture is so good. I guess Sabah has a better quality of pork than in KL.

After a fulfilling dinner, we check in to Hotel Sixty 3, staff is very friendly and the room is very huge but sadly no bath tub..water is extremely hot and big flow volume..Seriously I love the LCD as it is loaded with various channel movies, games and music. Even the screen display a welcome message from the front desk specifically to me with my name on the screen. Overall the hotel is very comfortable for RM 170.00 per night and conveniently located near Jesselton Jetty, Gaya Market and Suria Shopping Mall; all within walking distance.

Dozing off on the king size bed ends my Day 1 at KK, stay tune for my Day 2 at Manukan and Sapi Island post…
